This is a mix is for my very beloved-bay-area-burningman camp, Laughing Monkey. I motivated to trek out to the playa all the way from New York this year. All of venturing to the Playa have hours and hours to fly, drive, swim and cartwheel out to Nevada. I made this for our journey. There are epic moments and quiet moments transmitted via soultronica + future bass music. I really hope you dig it. Put it on when you hit Gerlach! Much love,
♥e

I had the best time playing The People party in Oakland. I love the crew to no end. I’d have a hard time finding a party I like better. I can’t say enough good things about the crowd, good energy and amazing dancers. Playing there is the beez kneesl. I promised some folks that I would post up a recording of my live mix. So, here it is. Soulful House I really like.

The Paleta party at Bembe NYC

The Paleta party at Bembe has been such good mojo. Collaborating with CumbaMela, DJ Panamami, Wonway, Chief Boima & Geko Jones has been too fun.  To celebrate, I’m posting the tropical radio show I did on EVR this summer around the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Lots of people aren’t familiar with my tropical-latin-digitaldancehall-african steeze. So here’s a little sample for ya.  You will find a jumble of Afro+latin music with a progressive, electronic flair. Enjoy it before the glorious summer days are done.

DJ Eko at COACHELLA 2011

dj eko, djeko, coachella, future bass, edm, okayfuture, soultronica, lovestep

Thanks to Global Inheritance for inviting me to come play on the Polo field two years in a row. I treated them to a break from the crazy adrenaline-filled, throat-grabbing sets that were so popular this year.

Sunset always demands something special. So I picked out lots of sexy cutting-edge bass music.

And since I got to be there all three days this year, I have to report back on the best performances. My awards go to: Joy Orbison, Ellie Goulding, Francis and the Lights and Sleigh Bells.. who absolutely kicked ass, hands down.

Happy to play with the homies DJ Wonway, DJ Tara and Fam-a-lam Deephunk at the beautiful summertime ritual gathering of cool folks from the Bay and BK. Not that kind of party where everyone is too cool to dance and watching the door for who comes in. Rainbow shades of all folks are knee-deep in beats.

Truly, this party is hella cool and one of my favorites.

A DEDICATION TO SOMBEROSIE

JULY
10

Once upon a time, I was given a track called “Somberosie”. The song had the most enchanting combination of melodies, electronic elements and dub vibe. But registers in at a higher tempo. It hit my sensibilities in a unique way. It was in my head all the time. I played it for dj friends asking if they had anything like it? There answer was always no.  My hunt for similar tracks turned into my putting together this mix.

LOVESTEP, THE DARK SPARKLE

OCT
25

THE FIRST SET I EVER PLAYED AT COACHELLA, went something like this Lovestep mix. It was that window of time, a year before Dubstep hit the masses [the next Coachella] and slid down the slippery slope to Brostep. This is a postcard from the edge, my foray into Dubstep with a soulish side. Dubstep isn’t for everybody.. and I don’t pretend that this mix represents the entire genre. It is, like all of my mixes.. a carefully selected percentage of the genre that speaks to me to me specifically. I mended a broken heart putting this one together.

NICACELLY – LIVING IN THE LIGHT VOL.5

::promotional only::
Nicacelly asked me to put together the newest mix for her Summer ’09 line. I do some crazy mixes but this, by far is the most eclectic + global concoction to date. By listening to it, you can observe my crazy synapses link downtempo to dilla, funk to brazilian, thai to salsa, dubtronic science to hip hop, rock to reggae, dancehall to marvin gaye and outkast to dubstep. I’m tickled with the outcome. It’s entertaining in a very different.. more subtle way than the Spring, Electro Yum mix that just hits like BLAM! I’m also very flattered to follow in the steps of dj Platurn and M-rock on this Living in The Light series. :::www.nicolemarkoff.com:::

Workout jammy alert! The inspiration for this 125bpm mix came from a the Music Machine night I dj’d in the Bay with the Bangerz crew. They have this night called “Turbo” where djs spin 115+ bpm without genre boundaries. I borrowed that idea and turned it up a few notches.
