Weird Reggae tunes. Been wanting to make a little mix of the stuff for a minute.  The word “weird” is commonly understood as a bad ting. So, I hopped on good ol’ thesaurus.com. One synonym is “magic”. So, this is a mix of MAGIC REGGAE TUNES. Ha ha ha. Which means, songs on here are kinda reggae or are remixed in a reggae style or embody some roots vibe. I aimed for unusual and surprise! If you are still getting to know me, I’ll give you a hint.. I love playing left field. That, playing  things listeners haven’t heard before.

ps. don’t get mad ‘that song’ is on there. it’s probably the best remix you’ve heard of it ever. so, shush.

HEY, daytime tropical smasher party on the radar. DJ/producer homies will be in the house and trading off on picking out tunes. The backyard has shade, a sprinkler to run through, like you had in the front yard of your grandma’s house when you were a kid. The bar has a fotobooth in it and Ms Pacman. There will be food too, and maybe, even popsicles… since they are the namesake of the event.

It’s gonna be fun. Period. End of statement.

Beyonce’s takeover at Revel!!

MAY

I got recruited to bring my Soultronica sound poolside for Beyonce’s big Memorial Day Weekend takeover of Revel Resort. Beyonce is playing 4 nights. Several of them are sold out already? I’m on the poolside decks, pre-show. I’m so pleased I could turn into a nimbus cloud at any moment. Will I meet her? I don’t know!! Don’t ask me!! POOF. CLOUD.

Thank you to the yogis, Lululemon & Bumble and Bumble for having me set the music to the night. I’m always so tickled when I get asked to dj for companies whose products I think are great. (In fact, I don’t think I dj for anyone that I don’t feel that way about). It was a lovely event in a gorgeous space provided by Bumble & Bumble in the meatpacking district. Looking forward to the occasion again soon.

2010 I decided to create a mix series highlighting the intersection of soul, electronic and  future bass. I had been brainstorming and collecting tracks in this vein and was waiting for the birth of more (and boy, did they get born).

The boys and girls over at Okayplayer like it as much as I do and just released it for Mixtape Mondays today, right in time for Valentine’s Day!

Soultronica Vol.2 for Parlour Magazine +Interview

Check out Eko’s interview with Parlour Magazine

Parlour Magazine hit me up for Soultronica Volume 2 and an interview after the release of Vol.1 with Okayplayer. Folks know I release less than a handful of mixes a year. However, when I was making the first one, I knew it would be a series. I’ve been gathering music at this intersection of soul+sexy+electronic music for a long time. I had plenty of music that didn’t make it in the first volume and some new cuts that just got released right after Vol.1.

I really like how this series a mixture of brand new sounds (Miguel, Azealia, Sweater Beats, Idle Warship, Bamboos) complimented by forgotten, or possibly missed tracks. Like who knew that SBTRKT produced under Aaron Jerome first and did a remix of Little Dragon? I was reminded to include some tracks like that when I played the remix of “Hold On” by Dwele here in NY recently, and a bunch of folks ran up asking me about Kanye’s verse that they had never heard (which is one of my favorites, thematically built around names of magazines). Vol. 2 moves from slow-burner to mid-pace. I had to sneak in some of my favorite moombahsoul jems at the end. Note: careful with the volume at work. Mar’s amazing cover/variation of Lil’ Waynes’ “Single” is completely un-edited 🙂
